admin August 15th, 2007

Just now we received the official press release from NRNA Secretariat. Please read the full press release. PRESS RELEASE

Parliament passes NRN bill:

The much awaited Non Resident Nepali (NRN) bill has been passed by Legislature Parliament of Nepal on Monday 13 August.

The bill defines NRN as those Nepalese living in foreign land for more than two years, either holding Nepali citizenship or foreign citizenship, however Nepalese living in SAARC member countries are not entitled to be categorized as NRN.

The bill has provisioned for issuance of NRN identity cards to those entitled. The card will be valid till the expiry of the visa the person holds, not exceeding 10 years for Nepali nationals living abroad, while Nepaliese having foreign citizenship will have to renew the card every two years.

However, the bill has not come up satisfactory and most of the proposed points were not included in the bill. Anyway it’s a starting point and hope there will be amendments to fulfill our needs.
