Janai purnima, the full moon day in August every year, the day that our priests tie the sacred rakshya around our wrist is known as Sacred Thread Festival. On this day Hindu men, especially the Brahmans and Chettris perform their annual change of Janai. According to Hindu rules the cord must be changed without fail by a Brahman on this day.

On Janai Purnima, there is a big mela (religious fair) at Kumbeshwor lake in Lalitpur. Devotees come here to worship Lord Mahadev and to tie a knot around their wrists.

Gyanendra Malla, NepalDefending Champion Nepal started the U-19 Elite Cup Cricket with a seven wicket win over Singapore. In the match played at Silangar turf club of Malaysia on Monday, Nepal chased the target of 108 runs in 20.3 overs with a loss of three wickets. Captain Paras Khadka top scored with 36 runs and awarded the man of the match as well. Khaka hit two sixes and four boundries in 32 bowls.

Wave Kick Off 2007 in association with KTM Card

Wave magazine and KTM Card organized a friendly football match at Dasarath Stadium on Saturday, 11th August to generate fund for the flood victims who have been rendered homeless because of the heavy rainfalls this monsoon. The match was between the celebrities and the media personnel of Nepal. In a memorable and exciting turn of events, celebrity team won the match 4-3. The ultimate winners were, of course, the flood victims who shall be receiving all the proceeds of the match.

Celebrities and the media personnel had also taken out a rally the previous evening to join hands in reaching out to the victims in their time of need. Many prominent faces were present to rally the people in helping the unfortunate people from various parts of the country.

Two Nepalese students recently hospitalized

Two Nepalese students have been recently hospitalized here in Singapore.

First case: Rabindra Subedi, a student with Columbia School (Tanjong Pagar) was admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital after being hit by a moving vehicle near the crossing of Serangoon and Kitchener Roads on 9 August 2007 morning around 1am. After two days at ICU, he has been transferred to Normal Ward. However, his recent condition is unknown.
